Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat can I expect out of the session?This session will offer you the "big picture" of how government works including a refresher in government processes, the APS vision and values, the strategic direction for the Government of Alberta, a brief overview of the ministries that make up the APS and the roles of some of the key leaders in our organization like our Deputy Minister of Executive Council and Public Service Commissioner. In addition, we hope that this session will offer you the opportunity to connect with other new employees both within your ministry and from other ministries in government. Who is speaking at the Orientation to Government session?The content for the session is delivered through a number of guest speakers including the Deputy Minister of Executive Council and Public Service Commissioner. The session is typically emceed by a Human Resources Director from a GoA ministry. What time does the session start?The doors will be open for 8:00 a.m. and the program starts at 8:30 a.m. Coffee and tea are offered in the morning. Who else is invited to the event?This event is open to new APS employees. There are typically up to 300 participants at each session. Is supervisor approval required to attend?You will require supervisor approval. When you register through MyAGent, the system will automatically prompt a supervisor approval in order to complete the registration process. I can sign onto MyAGent but I do not have the "Training and Development" link on my page. How do I register?New employees have to complete the employee validation process to access all the information on MyAGent. You will need your employee ID for this step. Once you have signed onto MyAGent, click on the "help" tab at the top. Scroll down to the bottom left and you will see information on employee validation. This may also be a great time to read up on the MyAGent orientation booklet that is available. I've already had an orientation from my ministry, should I still attend the event?Yes! The Orientation to Government session is intended to complement ministry orientation programs, so even if you have had a ministry orientation, you will benefit from the material covered at the session. Are there activities planned for the afternoon?This session is only a half day event. Some ministries may have ministry orientation activities planned for the rest of the day.
